Thomas Girardi Case: We filed Involuntary Chapter 7 Petitions against Thomas Girardi and Law firm Girardi Keese in the Central District of California, Los Angeles Division - It was a very busy December and January for me. On December 15 I was retained by six individuals with a total of $6.5mm in unsecured claims against Thomas Girardi and his firm Girardi Keese. On the 18th, I filed Involuntary Chapter 7 Petitions on behalf of my clients against both Girardi and his firm. On December 24, I filed Emergency Motions to Appoint Interim Trustees in both cases and on January 5th the Hon. Barry Russell granted both motions leading the Office of the US Trustee to appoint Elissa Miller as the Trustee for the firm and Jason Rund for Tom Girardi's Chapter 7 case. With no response being filed by either debtor,Judge Russell, on January 13 directed Orders for Relief to be entered. The Trustees have now assumed control and although I continue to be contacted and retained by additional creditors with claims against the debtors, I have a little time to exhale. Here's hoping that there will be significant funds to distribute to the many injured and damaged creditors who were supposed to receive settlement proceeds only to have debtors violate every duty a lawyer can have to a client and misuse and misappropriate these funds. I wish Elissa, Jason and their professionals the best of luck in recovering as much money as possible. Stay tuned!
